2024
Napa Valley
Cabernet Sauvignon
The wine has wonderful structure and complexity. The deep ruby color in the glass shows the richness and depth of the wine and will only get better if cellared for a few years.
The 2024 growing season in Napa Valley has been described as fast and furious. Throughout Napa Valley cabernet and chardonnay grapes were ready for harvest at about the same time. Mountain fruit and valley floor fruit similarly needed to be picked and processed all at once. It was a condensed, busy, beautiful harvest season. A wet spring and cool start to the growing season gave way to very high temperatures in June and July. This heat wave had us continually walking the rows of the vineyard to make sure that the vine canopy was protecting the fruit from sunburn and raisining. We spent many hours chewing skin and spitting seeds, waiting for the right time to harvest. Our 2024 Pritchard Hill Cabernet will be epic. Our block is at an elevation of approximately 1500 feet and is above the fog line. Therefore, our fruit gets extended time in the sun, but without the potentially damaging heat. The vines are exposed to a broad array of natural conditions such as wind and dramatic swings in daily temperature. These vines are fighters and produce amazing fruit. Once harvested, the extractability of color and flavors was amazing, and we were able to make a wine that has fantastic density, is plush and silky, and with precision and brightness. The wine is reminiscent of those from the award-winning 2018 and 2021 vintages.
